THE GRAND VALLEY STATE LAKERS BEAT NORTH DAKOTA by a final score of 30-20, though GVSU had jumped to a 27-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. Next up will be the Delta State Statesmen, who beat the University of North Alabama Lions 27-10 in Florence, Alabama.
I listened to some of the game on the radio today while on the road, and fortunately I got to hear three of GVSU's early TDs. What a shellacking.
Everything I read so far says that the location of next Sunday's game is yet to be determined. But on the radio this afternoon they said that the next game would be in Allendale if GVSU won. That makes sense, as GVSU is the first-seeded team in the region.
It was a windy day, and GVSU elected to defer after winning the coin toss, and North Dakota chose to go against the wind. GVSU took advantage of the wind by opening with a pass-only offensive attack when they got the ball, and they never looked back.
WR Eric Fowler caught a career-best 12 passes for 174 yards and two touchdowns and broke David Kircus' Grand Valley all-time single-season record for receiving yards with 1,380.
